When to use it
Creator business cards, shop counters and windows, product packaging aimed at a younger audience, event screens, merch. TikTok discovery is mostly through the feed, so a printed code is one of the few ways to send someone straight to your profile from the physical world.
The code on this page points at getqrstudio.app, because we do not encode third party accounts here. Yours will follow the pattern above.
How it behaves on phones
iPhone: the Camera app shows a banner naming tiktok.com. Tapping it opens the TikTok app on your profile if installed, through the universal link, or the web profile in Safari if not.
Android: most Android scanners open the link and Android hands it to the TikTok app. Without the app, Chrome shows the web profile, which works but pushes the person to install.
Common mistake
Copying the profile link from the app’s share sheet and encoding it as is. Those links carry ?_t= and _r= tracking parameters that add 30 characters and make the code denser for no gain. Trim it back to https://www.tiktok.com/@username.
Gotchas
The @ sign. It is part of the path, not decoration. https://www.tiktok.com/username without it does not reach the profile.
Renamed accounts. TikTok allows a username change every 30 days. Each change breaks every printed code with the old handle. If your handle might change, use a dynamic code that redirects to the current one.
Short links. vm.tiktok.com links from the share sheet are short but temporary and show a strange domain in the camera preview. Encode the full profile URL.
Case and size. Handles are case insensitive, so @QRSTUDIO reaches the same profile as @qrstudio, but the @ sign is not in the alphanumeric mode character set, so the whole payload uses byte mode regardless. A profile link is about 32 characters and fits version 3 at level M, 29 modules wide.
Login walls. In the browser TikTok often prompts to log in or install before playing videos. People with the app never see this.
Try it in QR Studio
QR Studio has a TikTok type that takes your handle, adds the @ and domain, and lets you drop the TikTok logo into the centre of the code within the safe area.
Print advice
Level M, Q with a logo. Merch and packaging are scanned up close, so 2.5 cm works. A window or event banner read from 2 m needs 20 cm. Print the handle in text beside the code, and consider the colour: TikTok’s near black and white palette suits a QR code well, but a red or cyan code on a dark background will not scan.
Try it yourself
Try a TikTok inspired palette and see whether the contrast is enough for a phone camera.
