What each check simulates

CheckReal-world equivalent
Decodes at full sizeThe code is valid at all
Quiet zone of 4 modulesText or a border placed too close
Shrink to 240 pxScanning from too far, or a cheap camera
Slight blurA shaky hand, a dirty lens, poor focus up close
Low contrast greyscaleDim light, glossy paper, a faded print
InvertedWhether it would also read as light-on-dark

Try it in QR Studio

QR Studio runs a version of this on every design before export, so a failing code never reaches the print shop by accident.

Try it yourself

A pass here means the artwork is sound. The test sheet checks your printer and paper agree.

Frequently asked questions

What does the quiet-zone check measure?

The blank margin around the code, in modules, estimated from the finder-pattern positions. Four modules is the standard minimum.

It decodes at full size but fails when small. What now?

The code has too many modules for the size it will be printed. Shorten the link or print larger.

It fails the blur test only.

Marginal contrast or a dense version. Increase contrast first; it is the cheaper fix.
