Who each one is for

QR Reader for iPhone is the most-rated app in this category: 1,429,914 ratings at 4.7 stars, last updated 25 August 2026. Over the years it has grown from a scanner into a bundle: product lookup, ingredient analysis, an expiry tracker, a document scanner with signing and OCR, puzzle scanning, and a generator that exports PNG or SVG. It is rated 12+ and its privacy label lists identifiers used for cross-app tracking.

QR Studio does one job: make codes that look good, scan reliably and print well, with dynamic editing and analytics for people who need them.

Where QR Studio is better

  • Design. Dot and eye shapes, logo placement, live scannability checks and an AI partner. TapMedia’s listing says “personalized QR codes” and stops there.
  • Dynamic codes and analytics. Edit the destination after printing and see scan counts. Not offered.
  • Print output. Print-ready PDF with bleed and crop marks alongside SVG.
  • No ads, no tracking. The free version of QR Reader shows ads and its privacy label lists identifiers used to track you across other companies’ apps. QR Studio has neither.
  • One purchase, one product. QR Studio has Pro and Lifetime. TapMedia lists a one-off PRO, a monthly bundle subscription and a separate monthly Database Scanner; the listing does not say which features each one covers.

Where QR Reader for iPhone is better

  • Scanning breadth. QR, barcodes, documents, business cards and products, with health information and price lookups.
  • Documents. Edge detection, cleanup filters, signing, redaction and OCR.
  • Data out. CSV export of scan history and a Database Scanner that posts scans to your server.
  • Track record. Fifteen years on the App Store and a very large rating base.

Switching

Nothing here is dynamic, so nothing breaks. Decode any code you made, paste the payload into QR Studio and export. If you used TapMedia mainly to scan, you may keep it for that; QR Studio’s scanner reads the same codes but does not do product or document lookup.

Note

Prices change. We read the App Store listing and its In-App Purchases list on 7 September 2026. Claims in older reviews about export restrictions were not checked today and are not repeated here.

Frequently asked questions

Is QR Reader for iPhone free?

The download is free and shows ads. QR Reader PRO is a $2.99 one-off. TapMedia PRO is $4.99 a month with a three-day trial and covers the developer's app bundle. Database Scanner is a further $0.99 a month.

Can I move my codes from QR Reader for iPhone to QR Studio?

Yes. Its generator makes static codes, so decode each one and rebuild it in QR Studio. Your scan history can leave as CSV.

Does QR Reader for iPhone make dynamic codes?

No. The listing describes a custom QR and barcode generator with PNG or SVG export, without editing after export or scan statistics.

Does it have AI?

Its AI features work on scanned documents (summaries, translation, quizzes). There is no AI for designing a code.
